For the second time this season the Upper Canada College Blues were able to emerge victorious in a high school senior boys’ football matchup against their city rival St. Michael’s College Kerry Blues.
But last Wednesday’s 16-7 triumph for the host UCC squad had added significance.
For starters, the Blues came out on top over their St. Mike’s counterparts in what was deemed as Football Toronto’s Game of the Week.
UCC had also eked out an 13-11 victory, in a regular season match, over the Kerry Blues back on Sept. 24.
The Blues’ latest triumph, however, was in the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) semi-final contest.
With its win, UCC advances to the CISAA championship final scheduled for this Wednesday, Nov. 9, against the host St. Andrew’s College Saints from Aurora.
The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
SAC defeated the only other entrant in the CISAA league, Port Hope’s Trinity College School Bears, 40-0 in the other semi-final, also staged this past Wednesday.
Despite their loss in their semi, the Kerry Blues’ 2022 season is not over. Since neither UCC nor SAC are eligible to participate in provincial season-ending bowl games, St. Michael’s will be the CISAA rep in one of the nine scheduled OFSAA Bowl games, set for Nov. 28-30.
All of the OFSAA Bowl contests will be held in Guelph.
